Milica and Andrei’s romantic Stanley Park Pavilion wedding was filled with lush greenery, beautiful details and so much genuine sweetness. Having been together since they were young, there’s an ease between these two that was such a joy to photograph. From their intimate first look in Shakespeare Garden to celebrating with their favourite people at Stanley Park Pavilion, the day felt completely true to them. It was romantic, joyful and full of sweetness.
An Intimate First Look at Shakespeare Garden
Milica and Andrei chose to begin their wedding day together with a first look at Shakespeare Garden in Stanley Park. Tucked amongst the greenery, it gave them a quiet moment together before the celebration began.
I love first looks for exactly this reason. Wedding days can move incredibly quickly. Carving out a little time to see each other privately gives couples a chance to settle in and actually experience the moment without an audience.
Milica and Andrei have already spent so much of their lives growing up alongside one another. There was such a natural tenderness to the moment. They are incredibly sweet together, so there was no need to manufacture moments for the camera. I could simply give them space to be themselves and photograph the connection that was already there.
A Romantic Rara Avis Wedding Gown
And then there was Milica’s dress.
Her Rara Avis gown and veil (purchased at Luxx Nova Boutique) could not have suited her or the setting more perfectly. Romantic and beautifully detailed, the gown looked incredible surrounded by the gardens and towering trees of Stanley Park. The softness and movement were especially beautiful to photograph.
Paired with her Jimmy Choo shoes and florals from Petal Talk, her whole look felt elevated and romantic while still having a sense of ease to it. It was one of those dresses that was beautiful standing still but became even better once Milica started moving, which is always a dream to photograph.
Wedding Portraits in Stanley Park
One of the best things about photographing a wedding at Stanley Park Pavilion is having so much variety right outside the venue. Stanley Park gives us gardens, enormous trees, winding paths and pockets of beautiful light. Best of all, we don’t need to disappear from the wedding for hours to create great portraits.
For Milica and Andrei, Shakespeare Garden gave us a gorgeous backdrop while still keeping the focus firmly on the two of them.
My approach to wedding portraits is always a balance. I’ll give enough direction to create something beautiful while leaving plenty of room for couples to actually be themselves. I never want a wedding day to turn into one long photoshoot. Some photographs benefit from a little intention and direction, while others happen because I stepped back and let the moment unfold.
With Milica and Andrei, their natural affection made that balance especially easy. The little looks, the way they reached for one another and the comfort they have together gave me so much to work with.
A Romantic Stanley Park Pavilion Wedding
After portraits in the park, it was time to celebrate at Stanley Park Pavilion.
There’s a reason this is such a beloved Vancouver wedding venue. The Pavilion has a romantic, historic feel while being surrounded by the incredible greenery Stanley Park is known for. Photographing a Stanley Park Pavilion wedding means having all of that variety within easy reach. The Pavilion’s architecture, gardens and forested scenery are all just steps away.
It also means couples don’t have to choose between an elegant wedding venue and the unmistakable natural beauty of Vancouver. You get both in one place, which makes it especially lovely for couples who want their day to feel polished without losing that relaxed West Coast atmosphere.
For Milica and Andrei, it was the perfect setting for a wedding that felt romantic and beautiful while still keeping the focus on the people they love.
A Joyful Vancouver Wedding Celebration
As beautiful as the setting and details were, my favourite photographs from a wedding day are almost always the ones that tell me something about the people in them.
Milica and Andrei’s celebration had so many of those moments. The big emotions matter, of course. But so do the fleeting expressions, ridiculous laughs, hugs and little interactions happening around the edges of everything else.
That’s where the documentary side of my wedding photography comes in. While I’ll happily help create a beautiful portrait or find the best light, once the celebration gets going I want my couples to forget about me as much as possible. You should be able to spend your wedding actually being present with your people while I pay attention to everything happening around you.
Milica and Andrei’s Stanley Park Pavilion wedding gave me so much joy to photograph, but more than anything, it was the sweetness between these two that stayed with me.
