Katie and Tivohn’s Burnaby Mountain wedding was nothing short of legendary. Wanting something unique and filled with the warmth of their friends and family surrounding them, they opted for the Kamui Mintara Playground of the Gods sculptures as their ceremony backdrop which offered beautiful views while allowing their guests to curl up on blankets and gather around to witness their vows in a more relaxed and intimate way. The hugs, tears and connection they shared with everyone following the ceremony was everything. I could tell from the moment we started shooting that this was going to be an incredible day.

On our way to their reception at South Bonson Community Centre we made a detour to capture the wild west coast backdrop of Pitt Lake.

Best. Decision. Ever.

I can’t even with this portion of the day! The west coast always makes my heart sing and the mountains were nothing short of spectacular that afternoon. It was a bit of a trek but I’m lucky to have such adventurous clients who are up for anything.

They wanted a reception that was relaxed and fun for everyone to enjoy allowing extra time for lawn games, an indian food buffet and lots of laughing and good times with the ones they love. They even made time to play a game of bocce ball together which we also did on their engagement session – if you’re wondering, Katie won. 😉

Katie and Tivohn, I’m so honoured to have been your wedding photographer. Thank you for choosing me to be there when you took the next step together as a couple. I smile every time I think of your wedding day!

Here are Katie and Tivohn’s own words on our time together:

Weddings are tough. There’s a weird mix of caring a great deal about certain aspects of your day, and letting things roll however they happen. Throwing caution to the wind and keeping control to the chaos is a careful and strange balance.

We wanted a wedding that allowed everyone including ourselves to feel comfortable, have fun, and enjoy the uniqueness of such a special day together. We looked for a photographer that had the wherewithal to help guide our day but also go with the flow. What we saw in Amber’s portfolio was an amazing mix of moments showing her ability to fit like a chameleon into anyone’s ideal notion of how they wanted their wedding captured. We set a meeting and knew very quickly she was our pick.

The engagement session (highly recommended) helped us get over the strangeness of having a camera follow us around. Amber took our vision and ran with it, with careful nudges and well thought out prompts we were happy, ready and confident we were in excellent hands.

Weddings go quick. Months of thinking and planning and scrutiny GONE IN A FLASH. Amber and her assistant managed to be in ten places at once at all times of the day, and the portfolio we received is something we will cherish forever. Her ability to match colour, emotion, tone and feeling is uncanny. Of the very talented pool of photographers Vancouver has to offer, we wholeheartedly believe Amber is in a class all her own.”
